1. How did you become an art therapist? What made you decide to take this course?

I was born into a family of musicians and became interested in wind instruments at a very early age, a family of instruments that I use a lot during my sessions. During secondary school and university, I worked as a volunteer with support foundations for minors in the care of the courts. During my pedagogy studies, I attended an open day at the “Globality of Languages” (GDL) national music therapy school and I immediately realised that I could have enriched my studies by building a bridge between music and pedagogy. The foundations of the GDL approach and its humanist vision convinced me to sign up for this course.

2. What do you enjoy most about your job?

I really like the idea that music can improve people’s lives, reduce their discomfort while they’re in hospital, replace certain medicines, help them to let off steam, relax and recharge their batteries. I love it when I play for the patients and when we play together.

3. How long have you been active in the Foundation’s projects?

Since 2011.

4. How would you describe your work?

This is a very important piece of work, as it helps to highlight the value of music for young patients in child psychiatry units. Thanks to music, it is possible to mobilise the deeper expressive and creative potential of young patients, enabling them to re-construct strategic resource and comfort zones in everyday psychiatric life.

5. Which artist would you like to dine with and why?

My wife, a pianist, introduced me to Louis Lortie’s recordings and sensibility. I’d love to meet Maestro Lortie once for a friendly encounter between musicians.

6. What did you want to be when you were little?

Head teacher. I studied pedagogy at university to make this old dream come true. Today, I’d say I’m more in charge of teaching in psychiatry.
